The scene

Nottingham has supported drum & bass consistently for a very long time, and the city has a reputation among artists as a reliably good place to play — the crowd turns up, knows the music, and doesn't need warming up.

Two universities give the city a large and renewing audience, but unlike some student cities the scene isn't purely term-time. There's a resident core that keeps nights viable year round.

What works here

Heavyweight, dancefloor-led drum & bass does particularly well. The city has historically supported the harder end of the genre alongside the more musical side, which gives a promoter room to programme across the range rather than picking a lane.
