The scene in Portsmouth
Route 66, which ran from 2005 to 2010, hosted sets from Groove Armada and Fatboy Slim and is still remembered as the clearest example of Portsmouth taking house and techno seriously rather than treating it as a novelty import.
As a naval city with a genuinely mixed population - forces, students, and people who've lived there for generations - Portsmouth's crowd tends to be less precious about a night out than some bigger cities, which suits a wide-ranging clubbing circuit.
