The Zodiac reopened under that name in November 1995 backed by Radiohead, Supergrass and Ride as investors - three bands who between them explain Oxford's actual musical reputation better than any club night could. It's now O2 Academy Oxford and still a genuine live venue rather than a clubbing destination.
Oxford's clubbing circuit is honestly a standard student and chart-driven scene rather than a genre stronghold - the city's real claim to musical fame runs through its bands, not its dancefloors, and it's worth saying so plainly rather than forcing a clubbing story that isn't there.
