The scene in Belfast
Shine, running at Mandela Hall in Queen's University Students' Union since 1999, is one of the most influential club nights either Ireland or the UK has produced, and it shaped the city's reputation for taking house and techno seriously rather than treating them as a passing trend.
A large student population across the city's universities keeps the scene running through the week as well as at weekends, in a centre compact enough that a night out rarely needs transport between venues.
