The scene in Chester
Northgates Bar, on Northgate Street, runs live singers and DJs every weekend alongside a small-plates food menu - a straightforward, current night out rather than a venue trading on its own long history.
The street itself has one, though: Quaintways, a nightclub also on Northgate Street through the 1960s and 70s, hosted Slade, Fleetwood Mac, Thin Lizzy, Status Quo, Dire Straits, Judas Priest and the Sex Pistols - a genuinely serious touring circuit for a city this size. It's not confirmed whether it occupied the same building as today's bar, just the same street.
