The scene in Coventry
The Eclipse, which opened in 1990 and later became known as The Edge, ran on the UK's first legal 24-hour license and drew crowds from as far as Manchester once the Haçienda closed at 2am - Carl Cox and Slipmatt played there, and it was voted best club in Britain in 1992 before closing in 1993. It's a real, specific piece of British rave history that Coventry doesn't get much credit for outside people who were actually there.
Coventry's musical history runs deeper than that one club - 2 Tone Records, the label behind the late-70s and early-80s ska revival, was founded here in 1979 by Jerry Dammers of The Specials at 51 Albany Road. Two very different genres, both genuinely born in the same city.

The city centre carries the current circuit; none of the venues from the Eclipse era are still running under those names.
