The scene in Hull
Pork Recordings, founded in Hull in the early 1990s by David Brennand and Steve Cobby, and Fila Brazillia - the Hull duo signed to it - built a genuinely distinctive downtempo and trip-hop sound that stood apart from the house and techno scenes dominating most other UK cities at the time.
That's a different kind of electronic music history to a big warehouse-rave city, but it's a real one - Hull's scene has always leaned toward the considered and the melodic rather than peak-time and loud, and that character hasn't really gone away.
