The scene in Leeds
Leeds has had a serious house and techno following since the early 1990s - Back to Basics, running continuously since 1991, is one of the longest-standing club nights in the country and put the city on the map for house music long before most of its current audience was born.
Bassline, the sub-genre most associated with Yorkshire, grew up in the same corridor between Leeds and Sheffield, and both cities still carry a following for it that London and Manchester never really built.

Where it happens
The city centre carries most of the late-night activity, with several universities feeding a student population that turns out midweek as well as at weekends - the same pattern that makes Manchester viable for programming that would struggle in a smaller city.
